NFPA 18A Standard
At Hazard Control Technologies, we adhere to the NFPA 18A Standard for Water Additives used in Fire Control and Vapor Mitigation. We align our fire suppression solutions with these standards, enhancing public safety and setting a benchmark for industry excellence. Every product we offer is designed with precision to meet these standards, which reflects our overall commitment to quality and efficiency in the fire safety industry.
Standard on Water Additives for Fire Control and Vapor Mitigation
NFPA 18A “provides the minimum requirements for water additives used for the control and/or suppression of different classes of fires and mitigation of flammable vapors. It’s intended for use by those responsible for purchasing, testing, listing, and using such additives.” The 2022 edition of NFPA 18A focuses on the safety, efficiency, and environmental impact of encapsulator agents, which is crucial in industries prone to flammable liquid and lithium battery fires.
The NFPA provides guidelines for how additives should be used to suppress flammable vapors. These guidelines include detailed requirements on the concentration and application methods of water additives, ensuring that they perform effectively in various settings. NFPA 18A guides fire protection companies in formulating products that provide faster knockdown, greater penetration, and reduced water damage.
Value and Excellence: F-500 Encapsulator Agent
F-500 EA is capable of extinguishing fires across multiple classes, including Class A, Class B, Class D, and lithium-ion battery fire hazards. F-500 Encapsulator Agent passes the requirements of NFPA 18A Section 7.7 with its ability to convert flammable fuel into non-flammable fuel.
- Expands rapid knockdown capabilities
- Reduces risk of re-ignition
- Interrupts the free radical chain reaction in fires
- Effective suppression of flammable vapors
- Reduces environmental contamination
- Reduces carcinogenic toxin concentration
These benefits make F-500 EA effective in diverse and challenging environments, including industrial settings with hazardous materials, electric vehicle stations, and locations with combustible liquids.
Unlike traditional foam systems or dry chemical extinguishing systems, Encapsulator Technology successfully targets fire classes on three levels (flammability, explosivity, and toxicity). It works by 1) separating the fuel source from oxygen on a molecular level, 2) reducing heat to prevent the spread of fire, 3) separating the oxygen from the fuel source, and 4) halting the chemical reaction. This technology ensures that first responders and fire departments are equipped with the best tools for fire prevention and protection.
